The largest and most notable deal in the fashion world for the summer of 2026 was Chanel’s acquisition of Charvet, France’s oldest premium shirtmaker. The news was reported by international media, citing comments from Chanel President Bruno Pavlovsky.
It has been revealed that the major fashion house has acquired a new company. Chanel now owns Charvet, a manufacturer of men’s shirts. The atelier has been operating since 1838 as a premium bespoke shirtmaker.
According to published reports, the deal had been in preparation for several months, although its details have not been disclosed. As a result, the purchase price remains unknown. Various estimates suggest that the brand could be valued at more than $100 million.
Charvet was founded by Joseph-Christophe Charvet, the son of Napoleon’s personal costumer. However, in the 1960s, the company was acquired by fabric supplier Denis Colban. His descendants were the owners of the atelier at the time of the transaction. According to some reports, the decision to sell was made because there were no heirs left.
Will Chanel Enter the Menswear Market?
With the exception of select cosmetics lines, Chanel caters exclusively to a female audience. However, the acquisition of a men’s shirtmaker, along with several other indications, could point to the upcoming launch of a menswear line.
This conclusion can be drawn both from Chanel’s advertising contracts with male ambassadors and from comments by Chanel President Bruno Pavlovsky, who has spoken about the growing number of male clients at Chanel, as well as women’s interest in Charvet.
