On October 15, Victoria’s Secret hosted a much-anticipated fashion event in New York. The grand Fashion Show 2024 was the brand’s first in six years. The previous time the “angels” walked the runway was in 2018.
A Long Hiatus
In the past, the iconic VS Fashion Shows were an annual tradition. However, in 2018, the brand came under intense scrutiny for promoting specific “beauty standards.” As a result, the 2019 event was canceled, and in the following years, the company had announced the disbandment of its famed “angels.”
For a long time, there was no mention of a possible return. However, in 2024, VS decided to revive its legendary showcase.
A Spectacular Opening
Before the event, guests were welcomed on a “pink carpet.” It kicked off with an opening video featuring New York City scenes framed in the brand’s signature filters, a familiar sight for loyal viewers.
The opening sequence included a shot of a woman on a motorcycle cruising through the city at night. That woman turned out to be Thai singer Lisa, who dazzled the audience with her performance.
The first model to hit the runway was Gigi Hadid, donning traditional pink wings. Behind her, a screen displayed the words “We are back.”
This year, the organizers introduced an interesting twist by having some models and guest performers emerge from beneath the stage on special platforms.
Fashion Show 2024 in Classic Style
In response to past criticism, VS made a conscious effort to diversify the lineup of models. However, the overall format remained unchanged, which is sure to delight fans of the brand’s classic style.
Many iconic models from different eras participated, including Kate Moss, Carla Bruni, Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, Taylor Hill, and others (you can read more about the VS “angels” in a separate feature).
The models showcased an array of wings and elegant lingerie on the runway, enhanced by live performances. Besides Lisa, who returned later as an “angel,” other performers also graced the event.
One was South American singer Tyla, who strutted down the runway in wings and a fitting costume.
Another guest performer was Cher. She first appeared with an electric guitar, then in a black outfit, delivering a captivating performance.
The main show lasted just under 40 minutes. The evening concluded with a final walk and fireworks over New York City.
